Standard First Aid with CPR-C & AED

16-hour introductory Life Saving Society course that includes legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, chest injuries, and medical emergencies.

Emergency First Responder

40-hour comprehensive Canadian Red Cross course that includes learning the patient assessment model, basic life support (BLS), CPR-C with AED, hemorrhage control, and care for acute and chronic conditions.

Emergency Medical Responder

40-hour in-depth Canadian Red Cross bridge course that builds on EFR knowledge and teaches more advanced skills for better emergency preparedness. This is the highest certification level before paramedical collegiate training in Ontario

Refund and Rescheduling Policy

Students who are no longer able to attend their scheduled course have the option of receiving a credit for the total amount of their registration. Credits will never expire and are transferrable between different courses and students. All credit requests must be submitted at least 10 business days before the course via email to info@utefr.ca.

RESCHEDULING

All courses may be rescheduled up to 10 business days before your course, subject to a rescheduling fee. Rescheduling with less than 10 business days before your course is only allowed for medical reasons and must be accompanied by a medical note. Send your rescheduling requests to info@utefr.ca for more details. 

REFUNDS

Unfortunately, UTEFR has a no refund policy. If you believe you have an extenuating circumstance, please email us details at info@utefr.ca, your situation will be evaluated by our executive team to determine if you are eligible for a refund.

ABSENTEES

Students who do not show up for their scheduled courses with no prior notice and documentation will not be eligible to reschedule or receive credits. Students will be required to re-register to attend any program.

Yes.

Our instructors all are certified examiners with years of experience as Emergency First Responders (or higher levels of certification). All our Standard First Aid courses are taught internally by Executive Team members, and our EFR/EMR courses are taught by third party training companies we are partnered with.

The skills we teach in our courses are mentioned briefly on this page. For more detailed information, please visit the Life Saving Society of Ontario’s website for a list of skills in the Standard First Aid course, or the Canadian Red Cross website for a list of skills in the EFR/EMR courses.

The sign-up form contains the course location and timing. You will also receive an email before the course begins with more detailed information about the schedule, what to expect, what to bring with you, etc.

Courses for the next month are often announced at the end of the previous month. We are unable to disclose this information earlier, however our courses almost always happen on the weekends.

Everyone! Whether you’re a student, faculty or staff member at the University of Toronto, or from the general public, we welcome any and all people who wish to gain life-saving skills.

Yes! You will be mailed a physical certificate for our Standard First Aid course. Certificates for the EFR/EMR are issued electronically, which you can access through the Canadian Red Cross website.

All our certificates are valid for 3 years upon the completion of the course.

Our courses are already heavily discounted compared to other third-party companies. Therefore, we do not offer additional promotional codes or offers.

UTEFR

The University of Toronto Emergency First Responders (UTEFR) is a Campus Emergency Response Team in Downtown Toronto. We have a passion for promoting and practicing first aid. Knowing first aid can save lives!​ Our mission is to instill confidence in first aid treatment, to make first aid training readily available to the University of Toronto student body, and to provide quality pre-hospital first aid treatment on campus.
